Ontario Casino Host Towns Bag Hefty Gaming Revenue Allocations

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation is ready to improve the condition of casino host communities across the province. This happens at the end of every quarter of the fiscal year and it has happened this week. Niagara Falls was among the first communities to bag a windfall, this time amounting to CA$4,951,522. Casino Niagara and Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort have amassed this amount.

The end of every quarter is a rather special time for the casino host communities awaiting the gaming revenue allocations. This support is possible thanks to the conditions arranged thanks to the Municipal Contribution Agreement between the casino operator, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation and the host community. Gateway Casinos and Entertainment and Great Canadian Gaming are the two operators influencing the province.

Niagara Falls Bags Nearly CA$5m

Niagara Falls is one of the communities to bag a substantial cash support thanks to the two casino resorts welcoming individuals of all four corners of the world. The two of them allocate a portion of their gaming revenue and send it to the city coffers for the improvement of the local infrastructure, as well as for the support of local large projects.

The third quarter of this fiscal year covered the time between October 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019. These fall and winter months including the season of giving usually draw a slight slump and then a surge of casino gaming in hindsight. This time Niagara Falls was able to bag some CA$4,951,522. This is a community that has always enjoyed hefty allocations because it is a popular tourist destination and there are two casino resorts.

Ever since the beginning of casino gaming within Niagara Falls, in December 1996, the area has amassed upwards of CA$159 million in non-tax gaming revenue. The two casino resorts have a new operator since the summer of 2019 – Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment, marking the entrance of a foreign tribal casino operator in the Canadian gaming field.

Host Communities Receive Allocations

Innisfil is another host community to bag a substantial cash allocation thanks to the slots venue in operation at Georgian Downs. Gateway Casinos Innisfil is the venue that has been supporting the city coffers ever since the beginning of this century. The third quarter managed to amass some CA$1,239,312 for the regular gaming offerings up for grabs. The fall months witnessed a slight drop in gaming revenue, as Q2 2019 witnessed CA$1,943,991.

However, there is a year-on-year improvement to be taken into account, as Q3 2018 witnessed an allocation amounting to CA$977,067. Ever since November 2001, the slots venue has supported Innisfil with a total of CA$87 million in regular cash portions. Sault Ste. Marie witnessed support amounting to CA$358,386 over the third quarter, as Gateway Casinos Sault Ste. Marie continued being a popular destination for locals and people of neighboring communities.

May 1999 witnessed the beginning of casino gaming in the region and since then, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation has succeeded in generating some CA$31 million for the city coffers. One of the last municipalities to bag cash support for various programs was Hanover, offering Gateway Casinos Hanover to its community and tourists. The venue generated some CA$330,964 as a third-quarter payment. February 2001 witnessed its opening ceremony, resulting in CA$18 million in allocations to the city coffers.
