Based in Nichols, New York, Tioga Downs Casino Resort is once more demonstrating its social responsibility towards local communities, as it makes a hefty donation to a local veterans group. On Friday, August 25, 2023, representatives of the property handed a check worth US$128,000 to the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group.
Tioga Down Casino Resort is one of the four upstate commercial casinos in New York and it offers premium gambling entertainment. Its gaming floor features over 890 slot machines, boasting some of the most impressive progressive jackpots with Sex and the City, Blazing 7’s Hot Shot Progressive and Big City 5’s Progressive. It also touts 28 table games and 6 poker tables.
Donating US$128k
As mentioned, at the end of last business week, representatives of the casinos handed a check worth US$128,000 to the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group. The latter is a non-profit organization headquartered in Vestal and as the name suggests, it supplies various resources to veterans, service members, and military families.
The gaming resort’s most current donation comes on the back of a veterans benefit concert that took place on July 28, 2023. The event was highlighted by Three Dog Night and all 3,200 tickets were sold out. According to the casino, the sales of admissions generated a total of US$64,000, and then the owner of the establishment Jeff Gural matched the donation, hence the US$128k.
Speaking on the matter, Mr. Gural said that veterans and their families had a special place in his heart. He added that the donation was an expression of gratitude for all their service and sacrifice to the country. He also revealed that this year’s edition of the annual concert was able to generate more money than any of the previous benefit events.
It was reported that tickets for this year’s concert sold out just in a few weeks. Meanwhile, funds generated through the event and given to the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group will be used by the organization to educate the communities on veteran needs, hence providing support for the well-being of the veterans and much more.
The Casino is a Major Contributor
This is not the first time the upstate casino has supported its communities. In April 2021, it provided plenty of meals to the locals just in time for the Easter holidays. The property has provided local households with more than 5,000 dinners. Also, the location has made a US$100,000 donation to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, and even more meals were given away to 62 more organizations.
In December 2022, the casino also hosted a special ceremony through which Tioga Downs Regional Community Foundation announced the recipients of numerous donations. he event took place on November 29, 2022, and over US$1.1 million in grants were awarded to 54 non-profit organizations in different sectors of the region.
