Seneca Tribal Venues Announce Bids Farewell to More Staff Members

Seneca Gaming Corporation recently made it clear that some 300 individuals part of its casino operation have been laid off. They work at the three tribal casino hotspots in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Salamanca. The unprecedented situation has taken its toll on the structure, but the casino operator is seeking ways in which it could improve its future.

Seneca Nation of Indians oversees a wide palette of gaming venues across New York State but it should be noted that it also has special privileges when it comes to the gaming operation. Its compact for tribal casino development comes with benefits, meaning that the tribal nation can make its own choices when it comes to the reopening of the venues.

Layoffs Announced

This was important for the tribal nation earlier this year when it greenlighted the operation of its Class II and Class III gaming venues across New York State. June 18 saw the official return of in-person gaming at Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino. Over the following couple of weeks, Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino and Seneca Allegany Resort and Casino also relaunched daily operation with casino patrons.

All safety and health measures were implemented on their premises ahead of their reopening, preparing them for the flow of casino patrons ready to give their luck a try. Seneca Nation of Indians employs some 4,000 individuals who were looking forward to recommencing their work on the premises of the gaming locations. The month of August saw the first wave of layoffs involving individuals employed by the tribal casino operator.

Some 150 positions were erased for the time being and the reason for that move was the impact of the unprecedented situation. Even though the tribal venues reopened ahead of their commercial casino rivals, the several months of lockdown over this spring took their toll on the casino operation. Not all areas of operation were up for restoration following the closure, which resulted in the layoffs.

The second wave of layoffs affects some 300 individuals on various job positions within the structure of the three tribal casinos. Seneca Gaming Corporation pointed out that its employees’ safety is of utmost importance and the safest work environment should be offered. The gaming leader works in close collaboration with the laid-off individuals, in order to find a solution.

Where that is possible, individuals will be offered alternative job positions available. Once casino operation in New York State returns to its normal pace, projections are that these individuals will receive the chance to return to their workplace. For the time being, gaming offerings on the premises of the Class III and Class II gaming venues are limited in variety.

They bring slot machines gaming and many of the gaming devices are switched off, in order to create more space between the individuals participating in in-person gambling. Table gaming is limited for the time being and with all safety measures needed. The work schedule is also reduced, at least during this phase of the business reopening plan of New York State.
