New York State Ready to Learn More about Local Gambling Addiction

New York State Assembly is about to work more on the current problem gambling situation on a state level. Two committees have been working on ways in which they could improve gambling addiction measures implemented across the state. The concerning issue has gained experts’ attention due to the rapid gambling expansion within the borders of New York State.

Evaluating the true scope of the issue is essential for dealing with the consequences of it, as New York State officials could confirm. Gambling expansion has been a topic of wide discussion for quite a while. There are both commercial and tribal casino locations across the state, with Upstate New York and Western New York respectively seeing commercial and tribal gaming. Gambling addiction is a concerning issue that should not be overlooked.

Problem Gambling

The New York State Assembly is about to have a good look through the strategies battling compulsive gambling this week. They have been presented by two committees working on them. Evaluating the most appropriate move in this changing industry is essential for battling problem gambling in the most appropriate way possible. New York lawmakers hear the presentations and are about to issue information in the foreseeable future.

This would also mean that State lawmakers would have the opportunity to evaluate everything that needs to be done for an improved gaming scene. One of the special programs battling the negative impact of gambling is the one offered by the Western New York Problem Gambling Resource Center. Projections issued by the resource center itself are that sports betting is about to bring a surge in individuals seeking help.

The University at Buffalo Research Institute on Addictions recently issued information that about four of every 100 Americans experience compulsive gambling and have to do something about it. Eight out of ten Americans participate in gambling activities on a regular basis for years on end. The resource center in Western New York also reports that college students are among the victims.

Gambling Addiction Projections

Some six percent of the students participate in gaming activities that have evolved in compulsive gambling. This could be attributed to the need for quick money, as well as peer pressure from their colleagues. They are also welcome to seek help at the Western New York center now that more gaming opportunities are up for grabs. Further gaming expansion is eyed once 2023 comes.

New York State could see three new casino resorts built, capping their overall number to 14. Field cannibalization and increased problem gambling concerns have been expressed. A special evaluation has not taken place in the past 13 years. The last time a gambling study was conducted on a state level was back in 2006, back when the gaming field looked nothing like its current state.

Since then, Del Lago Resort, Tioga Downs, Rivers (Schenectady), and Resorts World Catskills launched operation. New York State Gaming Commission would see the result of the gambling study issued by June 2020. This study is expected to evaluate the pros and cons of new casino resorts in an already struggling field. It would also review online sports wagering and gaming ahead of its possible approval next year.
