It is officially time for the annual celebrations of Pride and diversity in Kamloops, celebrated in various ways by locals and guests of the city. British Columbia Lottery Corporation greenlighted the celebrations of Pride Week 2019 with the official unveiling of the brand new rainbow crosswalk. It is located near its headquarters in Kamloops, spanning over 30 feet in the spirit of equality and diversity.
Gamers are united by their mutual passion for both in-person and online gaming and this is something that brings them together. Feeling as if they are part of something bigger and they are included in the collective enthusiastic wave. British Columbia Lottery Corporation has always shown its support towards host communities and the province in general, with its regular gaming revenue allocations and funding various local charity organizations.
BCLC Reveals Pride Crosswalk
Now the BCLC wants to express support of the LGBTQ2S+ community and celebrate Pride in its very own way. The brand new crosswalk is located near the head office of the provincial lottery corporation and it is a colorful patch with tons of meaning for the local community. It is 30 feet long, as the corporation has confirmed.
Jim Lightbody, BCLC President and Chief Executive Officer was present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony this week. He used the opportunity to express his excitement with the brand new feature of the community, which is projected to make the community even more multifaceted than before. Mr. Lightbody stated that this is an important milestone for both Kamloops and the BCLC celebrating integrity as a driving force of future operation.
One of the people responsible for the completion of this project and contributing to its every stage was Katelyn Boughton. She is a Pride Committee Member and Senior Technical Analyst at BCLC and she was also present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. This ceremony marked the official start of the annual Pride Week which also includes the Pride Parade taking place on August 25.
Special Week Ahead
The BCLC project amounted to some CA$2,000, but the entire project took less time than projected to be finished. Upcoming weeks are going to see the installation of special vinyl rainbows at BCLC’s Vancouver office bringing another creative aspect to the celebration. This week also saw the highly anticipated flag-raising ceremony praising Pride and Trans flags at the headquarters building.
Kamloops also saw major roadworks in the BCLC headquarters area, an improvement that has been eyed by many locals. Victoria Street West work has now seen the completion of its first phase. This means that there is now a single westbound lane open in the vicinity of BCLC headquarters.
Upcoming weeks are going to see the opening of more lanes in the area. Gaming leading forces are renowned for their Pride support, as Loto-Quebec recently proved once again. It introduced special pride-themed series of events at Casino de Montreal starting July 20. It marked the official start of the celebrations of Montreal Pride Fest. August 8 and mark the official Montreal Pride opening party at the casino venue.
