British Columbia was recently shaken by an alleged targeted incident which resulted in the death of suspected money launderer Jian Jun Zhu. His associate, local loan shark Paul King Jin was wounded during the shooting which took place on September 18. The incident happened at the Manzo Itamae Japanese Restaurant in Richmond.
According to the information publicly issued by Richmond RCMP Cpl. Ian Henderson, the shooting took place around 7:30 p.m. on Friday night when the two individuals were making their way at the restaurant. The Richmond dining venue is among the popular ones in the region, which has attracted the two individuals. Soon after they arrived on the premises, the shooting occurred.
Jian Jun Zhu
Alleged money launderer Jian Jun Zhu was shot to his death, whereas his companion Paul King Jin was wounded in the shooting. Mr. Zhu was known to the RCMP for his involvement in the money laundering schemes of British Columbia. His name surfaces during the notorious E-Pirate probe seeking to reveal more about the money laundering scheme deeply rooted in Richmond and the region.
Spouses Caixuan Qin and Jain Jun Zhu were linked to the operation of a Richmond-based underground bank working under the guise of Silver International. Allegations claim the business succeeded in laundering about CA$220 million on an annual basis, but the real number might surpass this amount. The last months of 2018 saw the unfortunate halt of the famous Royal Canadian Mounted Police E-Pirate probe that looked into alleged money laundering practices and businesses facilitating the act of washing dirty cash.
Casino locations in the Richmond area have allegedly been linked to the money laundering scheme that had been working for years. For the time being, the investigation of the targeted incident is still in progress. This will unveil more information in the upcoming days. Mr. Zhu died from his injuries sustained during the shooting.
Paul King Jin
Mr. Jin has wounds on his face that have been confirmed to be non-life-threatening. Scott McGregor, an Expert on Transnational Organized Crime, pointed out that this recent shooting is expected to have an impact on the underground world, as well as national security as a whole. As a result of the shooting, the entire strip mall where the restaurant is located was closed and cordoned off by the police.
It could be recalled that this June saw Mr. Jin filed a response to previously made allegations in relation to his bank draft keeping some CA$25,000 safe.
