British Columbia is among the provinces seeking constant improvement of its gaming field and the British Columbia Lottery Corporation is one of the main engines seeking better days for the local gambling opportunities. Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian is planning a special meeting with Attorney-General David Eby in relation to BCLC’s headquarters in the area. They are going to discuss the possibility of utilizing a parcel of land owned by the corporation.
Kamloops has a lot on offer when it comes to gaming operation and utilizing its potential to the best of its abilities. The Crown corporation’s main office is located there and this location managed to stir the pot at the beginning of this year. Ever since the summer of 2018, BCLC has been evaluating the idea of a brand new headquarters location for the Crown corporation that could be realized at one point. There is still a lot that could be done for the region.
Kamloops Wants to Boost Downtown Area
This September is scheduled to see the Union of British Columbia Municipalities 2019 conference, that is going to guarantee a congregation of big names and the possibility of collaboration and conversation on crucial subjects. Municipal officials will have the opportunity to meet provincial leaders and discuss British Columbia matters in person with the people responsible for the province’s better days.
In order to make the most of the conference, Kamloops Mayor Christian is preparing in advance for the meeting with a list of British Columbia officials that he needs to meet this September. He wishes to speak with eight officials about hot topics such as the sobering center in Kamloops, as well as the educational system in the area. In addition to those subjects, he also plans to address BCLC’s future.
Attorney-General David Eby follows closely the operation of the Crown corporation and everything happening around it. Kamloops Mayor would like to discuss the prospect of future development part of the beautification process of Victoria Street West. BCLC owns a parcel of land in the vicinity of the infrastructure expansion. It could be included in the new wave of development in the area.
Headquarters Saga Brings Closure
Mayor Christian is optimistic that the collaboration between BCCL and Kamloops could be a positive one, especially when it comes to the booming downtown area of the town. He has already referred the proposal to the corporation, seeking its point of view. Every possibility for development in the central area of Kamloops should be utilized to the best of its abilities.
The Mayor has also discussed the subject of headquarters relocation, that was considered last year. Mr. Eby has confirmed that the main office of the corporation will indeed remain in its current position and building. It could be recalled that upon estimating the possible outcome of this move and the financial side of the project, a change of plans was issued.
Kamloops is able to benefit from the employment opportunities the headquarters guarantee and a possible relocation could spell disaster for individuals permanently residing in the area. It should be pointed out that such relocation would have created up to 250 additional positions, some of which remote ones. In addition to that, the demolition process was projected to reach up to CA$100 million, a figure that was considered being a rather large one in the prospect of reducing spending.
