Greg Moore Assumes BCLC President & CEO Position while Jim Lightbody Battles Cancer

British Columbia Lottery Corporation is about to welcome its new President and Chief Executive Officer ahead of major changes. Greg Moore, current Board Member of the lottery corporation and ex-Port Coquitlam Mayor, is about to climb to the leading position. Up until this point Jim Lightbody has been overseeing the Crown corporation, but he would have to focus on his health and go on medical leave.

This September is about to bring a major change to British Columbia Lottery Corporation’s structure and it has been quite an unexpected one. Current CEO Jim Lightbody was recently diagnosed with cancer which prompts his medical leave. This time off would give him enough time to focus on his health and begin the appropriate treatment. Mr. Lightbody is determined to see recovery in the upcoming months. Projections are that his leave could extend until the beginning of 2020.

Jim Lightbody Takes Medical Leave

Mr. Lightbody is about to take some time off starting mid-September and this is when Mr. Moore is about to assume the leading position. Board Chair Peter Kappel made the announcement, stating that this right now, Mr. Lightbody has to make his health a priority and take the time off for treatment. In trying times people are seeking ways to express their support and show their appreciation.

British Columbia Lottery Corporation’s Board of Directors, the executive team, as well as all staff members, keep Mr. Lightbody and his family in their thoughts. He has been part of the BCLC structure ever since 2001, paving his way to the President and CEO position, which he assumed at the beginning of 2014. Mr. Lightbody has also shown his potential as Vice President of Lottery Gaming and Vice President of Casino and Community Gaming.

Several years after him becoming the Crown corporation’s leader he received the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of BC & Yukon Keeping People First: CEO Award. Among his leading principles is the idea that only if employees have their needs and expectations met, the business would prosper.

Treatment Could Extend to Beginning of 2020

Prior to his entry into BCLC’s structure at the turn of the century, he had showcased his skills at companies to the likes of Procter & Gamble, Nabob Foods, BC Hot House and Sun Rich Fresh Foods. This has guaranteed him a good perspective of the hospitality industry and the experience that comes with it.

Mr. Kappel announced that following the medical leave start, Greg Moore would assume the President and CEO position. He is one of the fairly new additions to the Board of Directors, as he made his entrance in November 2018. Ahead of his first steps as Board of Directors member, he has been Mayor of the City of Port Coquitlam for some 10 years while also being Chair of the Metro Vancouver Board of Directors.

Mr. Moore’s previous experience makes him a good fit for the leading position and he is ready to work for the brighter future of the Crown corporation. Nevertheless, for him, this is a temporary occupation, as Mr. Lightbody is projected to return at the beginning of 2020.
