Dresden Raceway Bids Farewell to 2019 Season, Leamington Raceway Greenlights Its Own

This week was a special one for Dresden Raceway, also commonly referred to as Ontario’s little Saratoga. Monday brought the last harness racing event of this live racing season on site following months of heated racing. The racetrack also offered delicious food in celebration of the season’s end. Meanwhile, Ontario’s Leamington Raceway launched its live racing season that would span over the next 13 weeks.

Live racing is a popular pastime for many Ontarians and many of them could confirm that this is what they do on the weekends. Some people bask in the sunlight and call it a day whereas others prefer to watch horse racing live and be completely immersed in the atmosphere. Dresden Raceway is one of Ontario’s hotspots when it comes to live harness racing featuring as many as 11 live harness racing days within its schedule.

Dresden Raceway Celebrates Season End

May 26 saw the official launch of this year’s live racing at Dresden Raceway. With only 11 live dates within it, locals were eager to make the best of it and enjoy every weekend to the fullest. The special period had to eventually come to an end this Monday when the last live race took place. As many as nine harness races made the day even more memorable.

Harness racing fans were present on site eagerly anticipating the next race and its outcome. Betting opportunities were also something to be considered, attracting an even larger crowd. In order to guarantee a well-rounded experience, Dresden Raceway offered complimentary corn on the cob for all fans of traditional racetrack food.

Alicia VanEsse, President of the Dresden Agricultural Society, stated that country music is the best way to celebrate the season’s last race. The live performance extended the celebrations on site for longer and guaranteed everyone’s good spirits. It could be recalled that this summer is a milestone for Dresden Raceway, which saw the official closure of Gateway Casinos Dresden.

Leamington Braces for 13 Live Racing Days

The slots location was managed by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment and its staff is now relocated to the permanent independent casino complex in Chatham. The new location is called Cascades Casino Chatham and it saw its first customers mid-July. The official launch ceremony is scheduled to take place on August 8, bringing grand celebration.

For the time being, the casino relocation’s impact on Dresden Raceway is hard to be estimated. However, 2020 is projected to make clear the true effect on the revenue. While Dresden Raceway was bidding farewell to its live racing season, Leamington Raceway greenlighted its own. Over the next 13 weeks, the racetrack is about to welcome many new enthusiasts and people already immersed in the racing field.

Every Sunday is projected to see many live races, rounding up their number to 13 days in total. This Sunday saw wagers reaching more than CA$30,000 placed on the 54 horses part of it. More than 1,000 individuals attended the opening ceremony and participated in various activities. Monday’s launch of live racing is essential, as it greenlights a two-year arrangement with Ontario Horse Racing.
