Central Alberta Humane Society Hosts Gambling Night to Gather Funds

It is quite common for non-profit organizations in Alberta to organize casino nights to try and raise funds, and the Central Alberta Humane Society plans on doing just that. Recently, the organization announced that it will be hosting Lucky Paws Fun Casino, which will help it gather funds to support the animals under its care, while also celebrating corporate supporters.

Central Alberta Humane Society is a local not-for-profit organization which takes care of abandoned and abused companion animals. As an independent group, it does not rely on government funding but it is instead reliant on the generosity of people. Via Alberta’s gaming model, the organization is also able to host gaming nights to generate revenue.

Gambling for the Animals

This week, Central Alberta Humane Society reported that it will be hosting its Lucky Paws Fun Casino on September 9, 2023. It will be from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. and it will take place at Westerner Park’s Harvest Centre. The goal of the gambling night is to generate some revenue for the organization while also celebrating its many corporate partners and supporters.

Lucky Paws Fun Casino is set to feature some exciting Vegas-style gambling entertainment with plenty of activities for guests to choose from. There will be live shows, special guest appearances, silent auctions, raffles, 50/50’s, a dance floor for guests to get their groove on, delectable “appie” stations, and a photo booth to capture the unforgettable experience.

But there will also be plenty of gambling options, such as poker, roulette, blackjack, craps, and crown & anchor. However, no cash would be involved as players will use fun money and chips. Each ticket worth CA$125 comes with general admission, complimentary cocktail, appies and CA$1,000 in casino credit for guests to wager. Tickets are available via cahumane.com.

CA Humane Society is an organization that provides emergency shelter and medical care for animals and pets in need. It also has programs for low-income pet families and facilities for volunteer and work experience opportunities. That is not all as it also offers humane education to schools, children, adults, and community groups in the Central Alberta region.

Revenue Sharing Model is Flawed, Says Operator

However, not everyone is a fan of Alberta’s revenue-sharing model for charities. For instance, the operator of Camrose Resort Casino issued a report stating that St. Albert charities suffer from the lowest amount of revenue from this model. The company released the report to back its request for the relocation of the Camrose casino to Edmonton. But it is currently denied by the local regulator.

In April 2023, the owner of the gaming property, New Star Capital hosted a two-day open house to discuss its request to move. The company pointed out that last year, the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission ruled against the relocation due to five reasons. But in the open house, the operator said that four of the points go against AGLC’s own information.
