Lynda Cavanaugh will be appointed as the new BCLC Interim President and CEO of the company since as we already know Jim Lightbody had to temporarily step down from the position due to his unfortunate medical condition and requiring cancer treatment. Lynda will be the second interim president and CEO, after Greg Moore who previously took over the wheel after Jim Lightbody.
After an announcement in November 2020, Greg Moore expressed his desire to seek a future in the private sector, Greg handed his resignation in, meaning that his term comes to on end on January 22, 2021. The future of the company is in good hands in the face of experienced Lyn Cavanaugh who has a rich résumé of public service in the British Columbia region.
The Successor
Over the years Cavanaugh was in charge of many complex organizations that have provided great service to local communities and groups in the area. Many of the qualities that she brings to the table include plenty of experience in leadership, infrastructure, finances, and technology, which makes her a perfect successor of both Greg Moore and Jim Lightbody.
Lynn Cavanaugh acquired her vast experience by serving as Assistant Deputy Minister in the Ministries of Attorney General and Public Safety and Solicitor General starting from 2011 to 2020. She will be burdened with the uneasy task of taking over BCLC, but history shows that she is a more than capable candidate.
But due to the unfortunate and still on-going events of 2020 the start of her term as Interim President and CEO of BCLC she will have to run the company from the comfort of her home in Sydney, BC. Traveling is essential in her new position, where she will be required to travel between BCLC’s head office in Vancouver and Kamloops. Cavanaugh will be tasked with the managing lottery, casino, bingo, and online wagering in the BC province, which generated over CA$1,300,000,000 in support of local business and charity.
Trying Times<
Previously Greg Moore assumed the role of Interim President and CEO of BCLC when back in mid-September 2020 was announced that Jim Lightbody has to temporarily step down from the position. At that time Mr. Moore was already a Board Member in the BC-based corporation and former Mayor of Port Coquitlam, meaning that an experienced and a familiar face will take over the company for a while, giving Jim Lightbody the much-needed time for recovery.
While Mr. Lightbody stepped down in September 2020 and his return was expected to be made at the start of 2020, the company was in the yet again safe hands of the successful Greg Moore. Board Chair Peter Kappel announced that while Mr. Lightbody is receiving treatment, the rather new Board Member – Greg Moore will take over.
Mr. Moore has mastered great skills and knowledge over the course of his career as a Mayor of the Port Coquitlam City for around 10 years while also serving as a Chair of the Metro Vancouver Board of Directors. And he has been a member of BCLC’s Board of directors ever since November 2018.
