Manitoba Government Puts Aside Plans for New Gambling Venues for the Following 12 Months

This Tuesday turned out to be especially important for the Manitoba province, as the local government made clear it is no longer interested in pursuing expansion of its gambling field, at least for the time being. The Progressive Conservative Government stated that it is going to focus its efforts towards boosting the local employment market and providing more people with a reliable full-time job.

The approach towards the gaming field of every province is strictly individual and unique, as lawmakers take into account the status quo in the region and consider ways in which they could improve it. Upon further consideration of the current situation in the region, the agenda for the upcoming 12 months was introduced, implementing several crucial changes directly affecting the gaming field among others.

Local Government Seeks Ways to Aid Money Deficit

Previously considered expansion of the gambling field will have to be postponed at least for the upcoming year in the Manitoba province. Premier Brian Pallister stated that the region will have to work more on its approach towards the casino sector. For the time being there are no plans for new casino venue projects construction or for the introduction of new gambling outlets.

The Premier himself claimed that gaming is not something he is fond of and he realizes the damage it could have on the community if problem gambling becomes a serious issue. Compulsive gaming and the addictive nature of casino offerings is not a new topic to the region, as battling the negative effects of it is one of the leading goals of the lawmakers. Premier Pallister stated that a proper evaluation of the impact is mandatory in this situation.

There are undeniable benefits to casino operation such as the economy boost provided by the gambling revenue. In the meantime, the damage of it should not be ignored as it has the potential to hit the province hard in the long run. The local government finds it difficult to conduct its work in a sustainable way and makes sure money is not spent in an unproductive manner. It is yet to be seen how this decision would affect neighboring provinces.

Problem Gambling Tendencies Need More Attention

As it has been confirmed, as a result, the province is not expected to witness operation of new video lottery terminals. In a situation such as the current one, it is important that the province government focuses on staying afloat and seek ways in which it could improve the financial situation. Looking further than gambling might be the way to do so, at least for the upcoming one year.

It could be recalled that in a previous statement Premier Pallister pointed out that a 2016 probe of the gambling field has shown that the local sector is threatened by cannibalization. This major issue comes from the operation of too many casino developers in a relatively tight field. Both Winnipeg and the entire Manitoba province suffered from the tendency.

Back then all parties interested in pursuing a casino license for operation were obliged to produce a market analysis of the field proving that the new venue will not damage existing businesses. In the meantime, the province provides all people seeking help with their gambling habits via a wide array of services.

There is individual counseling provided by Addictions Foundation of Manitoba, which guarantees tete-a-tete conversations and guidance. In addition to that, there is also a problem gambling treatment group offering collective help and meeting people with the same issues.
