Betting on the Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders are still remembered for their glory days in the ‘80s and early ‘90s. Back then, they were at the top of the NFL, winning the Super Bowl three times — in 1982, 1987, and 1991.
However, in the decades that followed, the Commander’s achievements gradually declined. Their last playoff win was in 2005, and over the previous 15 seasons, they’ve only managed to reach the postseason three times, losing in the Wild Card playoffs on each occasion.
As the team entered the 2023 season, their goal was to improve on their 8–8–1 record from the year before. However, after a loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 12, it was clear that their hopes were squashed.
However, this doesn’t mean you can’t include them on your betting slip. After all, there are still plenty of games to be played, and if you want to try your luck, you’ll be glad to know that numerous online sportsbooks have just what you need.
Types of Bets You Can Place on the Washington Commanders
Before placing a bet on the Commanders, you need to know which markets are available. From simple moneylines to complex player props, there are plenty of bet types to consider if you want to stake your money on the Washington Commanders.
Moneylines
The moneyline is your safest bet in most cases, especially if you’re going for the favorite. For example, consider a game between Washington and Miami. You visit a sportsbook, and this is what you see:
- Washington Commanders 4.60
- Miami Dolphins 1.25
Based on the very low odds, it’s clear that the Dolphins are the favorites. If you choose to place a $100 bet on them, you will receive a $25 profit (or $125 in total). On the other hand, a bet on the Commanders would yield a $360 profit ($460 in total); however, keep in mind that the chances of that happening are low.
Point Spreads
Point spreads level the playing field between two teams that are not evenly matched. Let’s take the game between the Dolphins and the Commanders once again. The Dolphins are the clear favorites — as such, they need to cover a -4.5 spread. This means they need to win by at least 5 points for the bet on them to pass. On the other hand, the Commanders, which are the underdogs in this faceoff, are assigned a +4.5 spread: they need to lose by no more than 4 points or win outright for you to win the bet.
The odds on both sides of the spread are even — 1.85.
Totals (Over/Under)
Totals are my favorite type of bet because they allow you to predict whether a combined score will be over or under a given number.
Let’s say the sportsbook has determined that the likeliest combined score will be around 49.5, . You can bet on “over”, which means the two teams will need to score 50 points or more. Alternatively, you can opt for “under”, which would require a combined score of 49 or less.
Futures
Futures combine a wide range of bets, all of which have something to do with the broader picture. In other words, you get to bet on the entire championship, not limit yourself to a single Commanders game.
For example, you can bet on them winning the NFC East Division, the NFC Conference, or the Super Bowl itself. You can also bet on them to reach the playoffs. Other than that, you can bet on player awards and a specific player’s total passing yards, receiving TDs, or some other crucial achievement at the end of the season.
Props
Props (or proposition bets) are tied to a specific stat for one particular player or team. Most players find them exciting because they come with typically high odds; however, they are also hard to win.
If you opt to go down this path, you could bet on Terry McLaurin going over 106.5 receiving yards or the Commanders scoring first in their next game.
Parlays
You’re making a parlay bet whenever you want to combine two or more wagers into a single slip. Every sportsbook allows it; plus, it makes for a more exciting and more lucrative experience since the odds are multiplied.
Some sites will even let you make same-game parlays, meaning you can combine several bets on the same Washington game (a moneyline and a total, for example).
Live Betting
Live betting has been a joyride ever since it was introduced. You get to place almost the same wide range of bets as in pre-match betting, but you get to do it while the game is ongoing.
Some major sportsbooks of today allow micro-betting, where you get to bet on the tiniest of details and the very next play in a game.
Who Has the Best Odds on the Washington Commanders?
Sportsbooks calculate odds for every market separately based on several factors. As a result, they may offer different odds. The goal is always to pick the highest ones — however, this is not always easy to achieve. This would require you to go odds shopping whenever you want to place a bet — a task that can be both tedious and time-consuming.
That’s why we’ve prepared our odds comparison page, where you can analyze the odds offered by major sportsbooks for a wide range of bets. You only need to find the market you’re interested in and pick the sportsbooks that offer the best lines.
