Betting on the New England Patriots

The Pats have won six Vince Lombardi Trophies since 2001 on the back of the legendary Belichick-Brady duo. In fact, Bill Belichick has just entered his 23rd consecutive season as the head coach for the New England Patriots.

In the first round of the NFL 2023 draft, they chose talented Christian Hernandez (CB) as their first pick. In the second round, they opted for Keion White (DE). With a few talented players from the last season, such as Tyquan Thornton and Josh Uche, things are looking promising for the so-called “Evil Empire”. Still, even though the New England Patriots aren’t considered top contenders in the upcoming 2023/24 season, no one in their right mind would write off Bill Belichick. The old fox still has a few cards up his sleeve, and long-time fans are rightfully hopeful.

All major top-notch sportsbooks offer plenty of action on every NFL game, so you can bet moneylines, spreads, futures, and parlays on your favorite team — the New England Patriots.

New England Patriots Betting Odds — Types of Bets

There are numerous options to choose from when placing a bet on the Patriots, and we will briefly cover the most common ones.

Moneyline

Moneylines are among the most basic wagers you can place in the NFL. The beauty of this bet lies in its simplicity — you only need to pick the winner of a match, as simple as that.

Suppose the Pats are playing the Kansas City Chiefs in the final round of the regular season. Although unlikely, we’ll be a tad subjective and assume that the books will consider the Patriots a slight favorite in this match-up. The odds should look something like this:

  • New England Patriots 1.75
  • Kansas City Chiefs 2.10

If you place $100 on the Pats, you will get a $175 payout should they emerge victorious. But, if you think the “underdog” Chiefs will secure the win, your $100 bet will result in a $210 reward.

Totals (Over/Under)

In this type of wager, your goal has nothing to do with the winners or losers but rather their offensive (or, should we say, defensive) capabilities. Namely, you are supposed to guess the overall number of points two opposing teams will score for the duration of the match, in a single half, or in a quarter.

The sportsbooks predict a limit before the match starts, and your job is to guess whether the score will go over or under that mark. Let’s say the Dallas Cowboys are facing the Pats in the next round. The books have estimated that the line should be at 46.5 points. Should you choose to play “under,” your only concern is that the combined points of these two squads stay under 46 points. If you play “over,” you should hope the final scoreboard shows 47 points or more.

Point Spread

This wager requires you to pick the winner or loser of the match within a predetermined margin of points.

Let’s say the Broncos are playing the Patriots, and the books have set the point spread on the Pats at +3.5. If you choose to go with them, they will have to win outright or lose by a margin of no more than 3 points. Betting on the Broncos (-3.5) will require them to win by 4 points or more.

The odds on both sides of the point spread are usually around 1.90 in most sportsbooks.

Futures

Unlike the three previous bets, futures do not pertain to any specific game but rather to events that could potentially happen later on in the season. An example would be wagering on the New England Patriots to win their 23rd AFC title or to increase their record and win the historic seventh Super Bowl championship.

This kind of wager isn’t restricted to the team market only, as you can bet on the players as well. For instance, you could predict that Christian Gonzales will win the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award.

Prop Bets

Prop bets relate to specific events or statistics in an individual game; however, keep in mind that these may or may not influence the final outcome. An example would be to wager on Mac Jones scoring a touchdown, the result of the first play,  or whether a player will go over or under a predetermined limit.

Parlays

Parlays are multiple wagers put on a single bet slip. You can really go wild with them, as your only limitation is the number of selections you can place(10–15 per slip at most sportsbooks).

For instance, if the Pats are playing this weekend, you can bet a moneyline on them to win the game, place an “under” on their team total, and predict Mac Jones will score the first touchdown.

The advantage of this type of betting is that you can multiply the odds further with each added game on your slip. Still, this approach comes with significantly higher risks, so tread lightly.

Live Betting

Contrary to pre-game wagers, live bets are much more dynamic and generally more challenging to hit; however, when timed right, they can pay off handsomely.

If you think you possess near-clairvoyant capabilities, you should have your smartphone at the ready every time you watch the New England Patriots. Doing so will help you place quick live bets, like the result of the next possession, the outcome of a kickoff, or a live moneyline right after a star player has injured himself.
