Lottery Machine Glitch Calls for Switch-Off, Technical Review across B.C. Bars

Maintaining fair gaming and making sure that all gaming offerings offer everyone an equal chance of winning big is substantial for every gaming sector. British Columbia Lottery Corporation wants to make sure all lottery vending machines operate in a reliable manner after a player recently received two identical lottery tickets on two separate occasions. This unfortunate event calls for inspection on all devices and temporary devices switch off.

About 800 bars and pubs across the province allow their customers to participate in lottery gaming with the help of said machines that can provide them with a lottery ticket in an instant. This makes it convenient for them, as they do not have to make a trip to a special retail location in the province. Ever since 2014, these devices are available in liquor stores across British Columbia, expanding their reach even further. A recent unfortunate glitch in one of the machines installed in a bar mandated a temporary timeout for their operation.

Lottery Gaming Much More Accessible

The occurrence took place only recently and was noticed by the player who contacted the lottery corporation. On two separate days, this player purchased tickets but only after a careful observation was the mistake discovered. The Quick Pick numbers printed on them were identical which would eventually make them invalid when it is time for the next draw.

Every ticket has to be a unique one in order to make prize-winning fair for all participants. The provincial lottery corporation pointed out that machines could sometimes make mistakes and the printing of two tickets with identical numbers is a possibility. However, precautions should be taken, as to make it a less likely occurrence down the road.

Technicians responsible for their reliable operation are currently inspecting the machines. Soon after the report, BCLC also subjected machines in retail locations to a test and there were no issues detected. It has been confirmed that the generators used for Quick Pick numbers are not related to the system responsible for lottery draws.

Temporary Switch-Off Was Needed

Pubs and bars are able to benefit substantially from lottery vending machines placed across the province since their operation generates an additional financial boost for the particular location. Alcohol and gambling appear to go hand in hand and when people are having a good time, many of them decide to try their luck.

Often times it is the celebration of a special event that triggers the player to participate in lottery gaming and possibly win a cash prize. People have been concerned about the effect this easy access has on individuals and their healthy gaming habits, but what should be pointed out is that lottery is considered a less threatening alternative to traditional gambling and many people participate in it on a regular basis.

The introduction of lottery vending machines to liquor stores in British Columbia was another milestone for the corporation, as it made it even easier for players to try their luck at all lottery games available. In this case, alcohol has little to do with the decision-making process, since customers are rarely intoxicated when purchasing alcohol.
