New York State is on the verge of great changes which have a certain time stamp on them. New casino licenses would introduce three more commercial venues and special donations have been supporting this change. Casino operators currently operating within the borders of the state have been contributing large cash piles in order to trigger the conversation earlier than initially projected. Genting New York is one of the main supporters and contributors.
There are four commercial casino locations currently operating in New York State. They are located in Upstate New York, catering to the needs of the locals with in-person sports wagering. New York State is also the home of seven tribal casinos diversifying the field and also bringing betting on sports events as an added bonus.
Casino Licenses ahead of 2023
Back in 2013, the government decided that this casino expansion is enough for the time being and these commercial and tribal venues would need their time to develop properly and attract their individual crowds of patrons. New York State gave the local gambling field ten years to securely position itself on the US market and ensure that its future is stable as it is.
The year 2023 is about to see the next phase of this gambling expansion, bringing three more commercial casino licenses for operation. They would allow three locations to receive the status of well-rounded casino venues and be overseen by some of the leading casino operators. This would equalize the number of tribal and commercial venues, as the field would feature seven of each. Such a delay is mandatory, due to fear of cannibalization of the field.
However, local casino operators have been conversing about license issuing ahead of the 2023 mark for about a year now. Genting Group is one of the big players in the region, overseeing Resorts World Casino New York City, as well as Resorts World Catskills. The former venue is not considered a fully-fledged casino location and it is after one of the three commercial casino licenses.
Would the Government Wait?
Genting has funded a political action committee pouring some US$90,000 into the pockets of Queens Assembly member Aravella Simotas, Brooklyn Assembly member Joe Lentol, Queens Sen. Michael Gianaris, as well as Governor Andrew Cuomo. The latter has received a US$50,000 slice of the donation. The assembly members are known to refuse donations from real estate developers, but casino operators are a whole other subject.
The casino operator claims that New York State education, as well as the budget deficit, are about to benefit immensely from the expanded gambling operation coming sooner than 2023. Resorts World Casino New York donated upwards of US$316 million to education over 2019. Schools across the state would be funded well as a result of an expanded and diversifies gaming offerings in Downstate New York.
David Paterson is former New York Governor, but right now he is part of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation’s structure and pushing towards casino licenses sooner than 2023. The summer of 2019 saw him become Vice-President of the casino operator and he expressed his interest in new development in the metro area of New York City. He recently said that Willets Point and Queens have been considered in conversations with developers.
